Vice-President of the Republic holds audience with Santy

On Saturday, Santiago Isaac Hannan, president and founder of the Santy company, went to the People’s Palace in Malabo to apologise to the Vice-President of the Republic, H.E. Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, for the adulteration of food and pharmaceutical products carried out by his company; infractions that the Equatoguinean justice system has penalised with million-dollar sums.

Comercial Santy, through its president, apologised to the people and Government of Equatorial Guinea before the Vice-President of the Republic for its commercial fraud.

During the meeting, Nguema Obiang Mangue brought to Santy’s attention a series of evidence that his company denied, which were discovered through an inspection set up by the member of the Government, including machines that adulterate expiry dates, in addition to out-of-date articles.

Following these violations, the Malabo administration decided to penalise the trading company with a fine amounting to more than 400 million Franco CFA and a package of measures prohibiting Santy from, among other things, importing and marketing foodstuffs directly to the population.

This decision was accepted by the founder of the company that bears his name, on the understanding that the Equatoguinean government wants to prevent any other company from making the same mistake.

For his part, the Vice-President acknowledged the roots of the Santy family and their work in our country, but reaffirmed that the health of the Equatoguinean citizen was above all else, and it was therefore non-negotiable in any situation.

In that regard, after 62 years operating in the national market in the sale of foodstuffs and pharmaceuticals, the Vice-President of the Republic informed him that, from now on, they will only engage in commercial activities other than the import and sale of products for human consumption.
