Joy As Children’s Home Receives Donation

There was pomp and colour at Great Hope Children’s home as they received donations from County Government of Nandi.

The consignment, which included assorted food stuff, personal effects, clothing, beds and mattresses came in handy for children, majority of whom are living with different forms of disability and health challenges.

Speaking during the event, Nandi County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Gender and Social Welfare Rose Angira said vulnerable children in the society needed love and support from the people around them.

‘The donation will go a long way towards ensuring children at the facility have access to their basic rights, feel loved and live healthily. I will continue working with relevant stakeholders to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate in the society,’ she said.

Angira acknowledged the role of children homes in the county saying such facilities protect young and vulnerable children from bad influences, offer guiding and counseling and also equip them with necessary life skills

Salome Chebitok, the co-founder of the institution noted that due to the rising cost of living, the home was hard hit by food shortage, but thanked God for the help from county government

‘I want to thank the humanitarian gesture by the county government in supporting these children. They need our love and protection for them to succeed in life,’ she said

Chebitok stated that currently the home which was founded in 2012 has 26 children both boys and girls of varying ages.

The home runs a primary school within the compound which offer equal opportunities for all the children to attain basic education.

She said they have been able to produce successful professionals from the home and hoping to produce even more with the support given.

Chief Officer for Gender and Social Welfare Beatrice Chemurgor said that a society that does not take care of their children does not have a future.

‘Each of the children represents a destiny, each one of them represents a bright future,’ she said

Nandi county government recognizes children rights, fights for their space and has always championed for child protection to ensure that children rights and dignity are upheld.
