Covid-19 infections, deaths on the rise in Middle East: WHO

Middle Eastern countries have seen a rise in coronavirus infections in the last six weeks because of low vaccination rates, officials at the WHO’s Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office said on Wednesday. Reported Covid-19 cases rose to a daily average of 110,000 in the past six weeks, while average daily deaths rose to 345 in the last three weeks, WHO regional director Ahmed Al-Mandhari said on Wednesday. Algeria pushes for Israel’s AU observer status to be revoked

Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra reportedly sought to persuade fellow foreign ministers to overturn Israel’s observer status while at the African Union (AU) Commission. Lamamra travelled to the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa to participate in the 40th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union. Work on ‘Chinese military base’ in UAE abandoned

Construction at a suspected “secret” Chinese military facility in the UAE was stopped at Washington’s request, a report by The Wall Street Journal revealed on Friday. “The UAE has never had an agreement plan, talks or intention to host a Chinese military base or outpost of any kind,” the UAE embassy in Washington told the daily.
