Algeria pushes for Israel’s AU observer status to be revoked

Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra reportedly sought to persuade fellow foreign ministers to overturn Israel’s observer status while at the African Union (AU) Commission. Lamamra travelled to the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa to participate in the 40th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union. The meeting took place on 2 and 3 February, with a host of foreign ministers from AU member states in attendance.
