ZeroFox to Acquire LookingGlass, Broadening Global Attack Surface Intelligence Capabilities

Deal strengthens ZeroFox’s External Cybersecurity Platform with industry-leading attack surface management (EASM) and threat intelligence capabilities

WASHINGTON, April 17, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Today, ZeroFox (Nasdaq: ZFOX), an enterprise software-as-a-service leader in external cybersecurity announced a definitive agreement to acquire LookingGlass Cyber Solutions, Inc., a leader in external attack surface management and global threat intelligence. In today’s digital-first world, the rapidly expanding external attack surface has become a veritable playground for cybercriminals and nation-state actors alike, posing an ever-growing threat to enterprise and public sector organizations worldwide. Integrating LookingGlass’s industry-leading attack surface and threat intelligence capabilities into the ZeroFox External Cybersecurity Platform will enable our customers to build a robust security posture by providing world-class visibility into external attack surface assets and vulnerabilities, including improved actionable intelligence to disrupt emergent threats.

As organizations embrace digital transformation, the same externally-available digital platforms these organizations use to do business are equally available to malicious actors, creating new opportunities for exploitation. This escalating threat landscape underscores the urgent need for organizations to adopt comprehensive security strategies emphasizing proactive monitoring, continuous assessment, and remediation of their public attack surface vulnerabilities to defend against the mounting challenges of persistent cyber adversaries.

“The acquisition of LookingGlass is a natural extension of our strategy to provide our customers with a single end-to-end platform for protecting their external attack surface from increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks,” said James C. Foster, Chairman and CEO of ZeroFox. “We are bringing together passionate teams that have been partners for years, and proven world-class capabilities across attack surface management, digital risk protection, threat intelligence and breach response to continue our leadership in external cybersecurity.”

With one of the most comprehensive internet-facing attack surface intelligence data lakes, LookingGlass empowers public sector organizations, large enterprises, and industry security alliances at scale by providing extensive discovery, intelligence and cyber defense capabilities. These unique capabilities allow organizations to identify and assess threats in support of remediation strategies against the most sophisticated cyberattacks. The combination of intelligence and action enables some of the world’s largest organizations to inform their security teams about cyber risks ahead of full-fledged attacks.

“The mission at LookingGlass is to protect our customers by providing unmatched attack surface intelligence for global threat visibility and cyberattack disruption,” said Bryan Ware, CEO of LookingGlass. “Joining ZeroFox allows us to expand the capabilities we provide security teams to defend against cybercriminals and nation-state actors.” Ware, a cybersecurity industry veteran, former Assistant Director of CISA at the Department of Homeland Security, the Nation’s cyber defense operations lead, will join the ZeroFox executive team as part of the transaction.

Thika Begins Race To Attain City Status

As Thika town gears towards being elevated into a smart city, various stakeholders have called for increased sensitisation to prepare residents psychologically on the expectations of a smart city.

Outgoing Thika West Deputy County Commissioner Mbogo Mathioya said while the proposal meant well to the residents, massive public participation was important in order for the public to catch up with new developments.

Addressing stakeholders during his farewell party, Mbogo, who has since been promoted to a County Commissioner told residents to embrace the idea saying they stood to gain should the town be elevated into a city.

He said while the establishment of the city will attract development and massive investment, there also will be an influx of strange characters, hiking of taxes and major movements of people from their normal activities.

While noting that residents should know the gains and shortcomings of becoming a city, he asked leaders to consult widely with all stakeholders when making decisions.

This comes as a section of residents, during a recent public participation forum, opposed plans for the elevation to smart city status arguing that they feared being forced to relocate to pave way for massive development.

‘While the move is necessary, residents need to be sensitised on what they will gain and lose out on. Stakeholders like bodabodas, hawkers, need to understand that their mode of operations will change. Residents too will have to understand that there will be massive employment opportunities and increased investment. People will have to move to pave the way for development,’ said Mbogo.

Kamenu Ward MCA Peter Mburu said that prior concrete arrangements have to be made first before jumping into the proposal which he said could see many people caught off-guard.

The MCA said the proposal might fail terribly if it is forced on residents.

He called on the Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi to work with the county assembly saying leaders cannot deliver to its residents while working in isolation.

‘You see what happened during a public participation forum a month ago where residents were up in arms, opposing the plans. This was due to poor sensitisation. They need to be brought on board and consulted widely because they are the biggest stakeholders. Otherwise the proposal might fail,’ Mburu said.

Wamatangi has since maintained that Thika town was headed for elevation, saying some funds to kick-start the process have already been set aside.

He cited Sh5.8 billion for water distribution that he said was in the county’s accounts, adding that the county needs Sh15 billion to have the town elevated to a city.

Task team to fast-track Marianhill police station construction

The KwaZulu-Natal provincial government has recommended the establishment of a multi-agency task team that will fast-track the construction of a new police station in Mariannhill, near Pinetown.

Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs MEC, Siboniso Duma, made the announcement during his oversight visit to the Marriannhill Police Station on Sunday.

Duma, who is also a leader of government business, led the provincial government delegation during the Premier’s Crime-Fighting Imbizo, held at KwaNdengezi sport field.

Duma said the move to build the new police station follows Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube’s announcement on drastic interventions to take the war to criminals and build safer communities, made during the State of the Province Address in February.

Mariannhill has made headlines due to acts of extreme violence and wanton shootings of people by brazen criminals.

These include five people who were gunned down in a vehicle repair workshop in February and 14 people killed in separate incidents, which left the community living in fear.

The construction of the new police station is the provincial government’s commitment to increase law enforcement in KwaNdengezi and surrounding areas, which are serviced by Mariannhill and KwaNdengezi police stations.

Duma said the National Department of Public Works and Infrastructure Development, together with eThekwini Municipality, have identified land to build a new police station in Mariannhill.

Once formed, the task team which will include three spheres of government, will meet regularly to clear all bottlenecks that may delay the construction of the new police station.

The MEC said the police station will be a modern facility with advanced technology, which will respond to the provincial government’s resolve to confront crime head on and close all spaces for criminals.

“The new police station will go a long way in fighting rampant crime in Mariannhill, Mariannridge, Dassenhoek, KwaNdengezi and surrounding areas. As government, we cannot rest on our laurels while our communities are held at ransom by criminals who kill with impunity.

“The new police station will allow for quicker response times to emergency situations, provide a more visible policing and offer specialised services to the community.”

Duma condemned the multiple killings of people, including the proliferation of drug dens and drug abuse by young people in these areas, and urged the communities to work with government and police to root out crime in KwaZulu-Natal.

Police officers who are suspected of colluding with criminals in the commission of crime in the area were also condemned. Meanwhile law enforcement officers were urged to operate in a fair and just manner, while serving the community.

However, Duma warned that building a new police station alone may not be enough to address the root causes of crime in the community.

“Addressing poverty, inequality, and social ills also plays a critical role in reducing crime rate,” he said.

The MEC also visited KwaNdengezi Police station to monitor crime and gender-based violence (GBV) cases, as well as challenges faced by the police stations.

During his visit to the two police stations, Duma unveiled two park homes that will serve as victim-friendly rooms where GBV victims will receive psycho-social support. – SAnews.gov.za
