UB VC says bank fee payment reinstated to counter fraud, warns absentee lecturers


Teaching and learning for the 2024/2025 academic year in the University of Buea(UB), commenced with an inaugural lecture on October 8, 2024. The Vice-Chancellor (VC), Prof. Ngomo Horace Manga in welcoming students, also commented on why fees were meant to hence be paid at banks and not through mobile money transfers.

He told listeners that the move was to reduce fraud carried out by some students with mobile money printed receipts. Prof. Ngomo said after consultation, bank payment receipts were viewed as less likely to be forged compared to the A4 paper printed MoMo receipts.

Mindful of the the acts of some students in evading fee payment which is 50,000 fcfa. The VC said the resources of the University had significantly dwindled inspiring the new measure.

Addressing faculty deans, he told them to ensure lecturers’ attendance was carefully monitored. With those who are yet to begin duty noted. Prof Ngomo Horace equally used the ceremony to announce the partnership between UB and the Ministry of Small and
Medium Size Enterprises to the tune of 75 million for the finance of incubators.

More so, he hinted that UB will operate a vehicle testing center in the upcoming days. Its driving school is already operational. The VC said these serve as training platforms for the various fields and finance for the institution in the face of decreasing state subvention.
