SOUTH AFRICAN UNIONS SHOW SUPPORT FOR FORMER BRAZILIAN PRESIDENT LULA

PRETORIA, The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) has today expressed its strong solidarity with former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and also condemned Michel Temer’s regime for eroding labour achievements in that South American nation.

In a statement aired in this capital, the workers’ centre condemned the attacks on Lula and supported the Brazilian working class at a right time when ‘the historic goals achieved by workers (Workers’ Party) are eroded by TemerAs right-wing regime and his US allies and elsewhere.’

Imprisoning Lula for crimes he did not commit and falsely accusing Dilma Rousseff of tax evasion shows total hypocrisy and is a manifestation of double position, according to the statement.

It also adds that the incomparable socioeconomic advances achieved during the last decade by Lula and Rousseff administrations have been destroyed and reversed drastically.

Millions of Brazilian nationals -after generations- have visualized during Lula and Rousseff administrations some hopes that were trampled by ‘the same ruling class of thieves and liars who have been responsible for the continuing inequity and misery in Brazil.’

COSATU strongly condemns the manipulation of legal process for sentencing Lula and Rousseff … the present Brazilian administration is just a sample of a culture operating under a control model that is trying desperately to survive at all costs, as reported by COSATU.
