Nyeri Women Rep Urges Dairy Farmers To Form Cooperatives

Nyeri Women Representative Rahab Mukami has urged farmers to join hands and form their cooperative.

Speaking when she joined Gakindu dairy farmers in Mukurweini Constituency Nyeri County during the Farmers Annual General Meeting (AGM) Mukami said forming a cooperative will enable farmers to deposit and borrow money at low interest.

Mukami also delivered a milk cooler for Sh 550,000 to enable farmers to store the milk that they deliver and urged dairy farmers to put more effort into the industry saying that dairy farming is one of the most popular enterprises in Nyeri County.

She said the cooler comes a long way in eradicating milk spoilage and wastage as well as enabling farmers to gain an extra shilling. Hence, farmers who produce over 1900 litres of milk daily, have requested a milk cooler to facilitate their milk storage.

Furthermore, she explained that farmers have various challenges mainly raw materials to enable their increase in the production of milk. ‘I’m committed to ensuring that these farmers
can support themselves fully,” said Mukami.

She thanked Wakulima Dairy under the leadership of Muhika Mutahi for the continued support and buying of the milk from the local farmers. Farmers present thanked the County Women Rep saying she had done good to deliver them a cooling machine. ‘Indeed it’s a big boost to us dairy farmers,’ says James Kamau a local farmer.
