Kisii ECDE Teachers Receive Employment Upgrade

Kisii: Over 500 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers in Kisii County received a significant boost in their employment terms, as Governor Simba Arati announced a transition from contract-based to permanent and pensionable positions.

According to Kenya News Agency, during a meeting with over 700 ECDE teachers at Gusii stadium, Arati clarified that the revised terms would apply to those below 45 years, following the due process. Teachers above 45 will remain on contract until retirement, adhering to legal provisions.

Arati recognized the vital role of ECDE in shaping the psychological, intellectual, and social development of young children. Ensuring the welfare of ECDE teachers is a priority, including improving their working terms and equipping learning centers adequately.

The governor urged the public service board to promptly review and implement the engagement of eligible teachers for permanent employment. This change aims to enhance their effectiveness in servicing the over 70,000 ECDE learners across 703 centers in the county.

Additionally, Arati called for a review of the cases of nurses who were dismissed under unclear circumstances two years ago by the previous administration. This appeal reflects a broader commitment to rectifying past employment injustices and improving workforce conditions in the county.
