Residents of Kibish Sub-County will soon heave a sigh of relief after the County Government commenced the refurbishment of the Kangitulae irrigation scheme in the Kibish Sub-County.
The Turkana county Acting Director for Irrigation Peter Loree said the maintenance project was meant to foster development and self-reliance through the production of own crops for subsistence and commercial purposes to boost social economic life.
The scope of work included drilling and equipping the borehole, ?perimeter fencing, and concrete skirting of 5 acre-farm.
The contractor will also provide an elevated steel tank and equip the farm with drip lines for vegetable crops.
Loree noted that the County Government has been steadfast in implementing irrigation projects to majorly ease food production in the County.
He also asked the contractor to commence civil works immediately and maintain quality, timely, and effective delivery of contractual works.
‘This project is estimated to take six months to complete hence the need
to work with the committee for ease of implementation,’ he said.
Kaaleng/Kaikor MCA Abdifatah Kapua, who witnessed the handover, appreciated the Governor for the project terming it as a response to the community’s interest in irrigation.
He cautioned the community against politicizing the project to ensure its intended objective like other successful projects implemented in the County.
The resident Eng. Ekeno Charles, Pius Ekidor (Accountant), and Eliud Ewoi (Sub County Land Reclamation Officer) were also present at the handover.
