ETHIOPIA, DJIBOUTI AGREE TO ESTABLISH JOINT RAILWAY COMPANY

Ethiopia and Djibouti have signed an agreement which enables them to establish a joint company that manages the Ethio-Djibouti Railways, Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed.

The railways have so far been handled separately by companies of the respective countries, it was indicated.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Transport Minister Ahmed Shide said the big continental project that has linked the peoples of the two countries opens the prospect for networking other African countries as well.

The minster added that the railway enterprises of the countries should implement the agreement by making the railway line go operational soon as the business communities are awaiting its realization.

Present during the signing ceremony were State Enterprises Minister Dr. Girma Amente, Ethiopian Railway Corporation CEO Dr. Engineer Getachew Betru on the Ethiopian side, and Djiboutis Finance and Industry Minister Ilyas Moussa Dawaleh and Djibouti Railway Corporation General Manager Mr. Mohammud, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs press release.
