Elite One Day 13: Avion-Coton tie extends Cotonites winless streak

Elite One outfit Coton Sport of Garoua played a goalless draw against visiting side Avion Academy at the Roumdi Adjia stadium on Saturday.

The 18-time league champions came from a 1-0 home defeat against Fauve Azur on match day 12.

Coton started with a high tempo at the Roumde Adjia stadium creating chances but a more defensive and determined UMS defense kept the Cotonites at bay.

‘We played a very good match but we didn’t get to good in front of pole to score goals, but I am very satisfied with the teams performance we will work harder on our attack in order to get a win in our next match’ said Daniel Bread, coach of Coton Sport.

With a draw against UMS, Coton Sport have now gone 4 games without a win, with 1 defeat and 3 draws. They stand first in pool B of the Elite One championship while UMS ranks fourth.

AFCON 2023: Surprises Linger as Rigobert Song Names Cameroon’s 27-Man Squad


The Indomitable Lions highly anticipated final squad list for the 2023 African Nations cup has been released by the head coach, Rigobert song with a few notable absences.

Eric Maxim Choup Choup Moting, who plays for Bayern Munich in Germany, and Fai Collins of Racknicki Nis, a Serbian division one team, top the list of top absentees.

Nicolas Nkoulou, who last played for the Lions in a friendly match against Mexico, and Kunde Malong, who played a significant role in getting the Lions to the 2023 African Nations Cup, were left out.

Additionally, Emmanuel Mahob, the 2023 Cameroon Ballon d’Or winner and top scorer with 14 goals in the 2022/2023 Elite one season with Canon of Yaounde, was also shockingly absent from the list including the likes of Che Malone among others.

Africa celebrates Sinesipho for acquiring highest scouting qualification in world football


Former Kaizer Chiefs and Chippa United analyst, Sinesipho Mali, has been celebrated for his accomplishment at the UEFA Academy as graduate in International Elite Scouting.

The South African, 37, became the youngest African to ever acquire the qualification. He was the only African in the class of 2023, and third African in the programme’s history.

Several South Africans have attested to his dedication to the sports amidst the challenges he faced.

‘When defeat comes, accept it as a signal that your plans are not sound, rebuild those plans, and sail once more towards your coveted goal’ Sinesipho said after his graduation.

The achievement is seen as sign that more football talents in Africa will get a wider exposure to the world.

AFCON 2023: Cameroon’s oponent Guinea names final 25 man squad

The Indomitable lions first group C oponent Guinea has named their final squad containing 25 players.

Guinea who will be making their 13th appearance in the Africa Cup of Nations will face the mights of defending champions Senegal, Cameroon, and Gambia in the group stage.

The squad carefully selected and announced by coach Kaba Diawara on December 25th, will play their first match against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon at the Yamoussoukro Stadium on January 15, 2024.

AFCON 2023: Indomitable Lions to play last friendly against Copper Bullets

The Indomitable Lions will face the Copper Bullets of Zambia in a friendly on January 9, 2024, in Saudi Arabia.

The encounter will serve as a final tune-up for both teams prior to the Africa Cup of Nations.

The two teams have so far met five times, with the Indomitable Lions winning twice, drawing once, and losing on two occasions. Majority of the encounters have been competitive, including World Cup qualifiers.

The Copper Bullets are in Group F of the AFCON, along with Morocco, DR Congo and Tanzania, while the Indomitable Lions are in Group C with Senegal, Guinea, and Gambia.

In addition to Zambia and Cameroon, eight other friendly matches are scheduled prior to the tournament. Nigeria will play two friendlies against Burkina Faso and Cape Verde. Ghana will face Botswana, while the Pharaohs of Egypt will play against Tanzania.

Other pairings include Burkina Faso versus the Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal versus Niger, and Angola against Guinea Bissau.
