Buea councillors engine Biya, 92, for rerun

Councillors of Buea urged Paul Biya who is 92, to go in for Presidential elections as their natural candidate come 2025.

The municipal representatives of the South West regional capital on mandate from Biya’s ruling CPDM, filed a motion of support at the end of the Council Budget Orientation Debate on August 13.

They noted that they were pleased, that the mandate of municipal councillors and parliamentarians had been extended till 2026. Originally to hold in 2025 as per the five-year norm.

According to them, the decision was wise. Contrary to other Cameroonians like Akere Muna, a national anti-corruption advocate who deems it undemocratic.

‘We declare our unalloyed and total support to President Paul Biya, and call on him to present himself as our natural candidate in the forthcoming presidential elections in the republic of Cameroon,’ they issued to the nonagenarian leader.

The reading of the motion-triggered widespread laughs in the Council boardroom. It comes amidst calls from some other ruling party
members for an end to the four-decade-long Biya era.

It must be recalled that Paul Biya said to international press men in 2022, that he will only make his intentions to rerun or back out come 2025.

Biya has over recent years come under scrutiny for health fitness. With numerous leaked moments of his doubtful wellness state at various international functions.
