ALGIERS– Coastguards in Algeria’s western province of Oran on Monday deterred 61 people from sailing illegally to European shores in three separate operations, APS news agency reported.

The first operation foiled illegal immigration attempts of 21 people, including six women and four minors, who were onboard a pneumatic boat intercepted off the coast of Oran.

In the second operation, 21 illegal immigrants, including two women and five minors, were intercepted while sailing to international waters.

Another 19 people, including one woman and three minors, were arrested about 12.8 km north of the port of Oran.
